Large wood utensils before and after!

For the past few months, I've been seeing those old, large wooden forks and spoons all over blogland. When I first started seeing them on the internet, I wasn't sure. I remember my grandparents having these!! LOL!! But they grew on me...

I squealed when I went thrift shopping with my cousin Claude last week and came accross this set for 2$:

But that totem thingie HAD.to.go. Not my style at all.

A little paint, some jute and some distressing and we now have this:

MUUUUCH better dontcha think?!?!
Here are some close-ups:

This post is part of the Metamorphosis Monday party at Between Naps On The Porch! Come join us with your before and afters, and take a look at what everyone did!

They look great! The totem thing isn't really my style either... I don't mind mine as much now that they are painted black. Thanks for stopping by my blog... I am off to read more of yours.

SMiles!

Great idea with the twine---but I would use them for salad any ole day--I love the long handles for mixing up the salad!

Way to go! I love it! I would've never thought of the twine. It's excellent with the distressed white! I have a white set in my kitchen (did a blog once that had them in it) and used baling wire in the holes. My step daughter liked them so much. I was just on the Nebraska Junk Jaunt (too tired to post anything about it yet) and found another pair for $1. So, am painting them black and then distressing. I'll ask her which she likes best and sent That one to her.

What a great update Love that you added the jute - that's a fantastic accent!! They remind me of the set in Frank & Marie's kitchen on Everybody Loves Raymond in their before state! ... Donna @ An Enchanted Cottage

Thanks for the idea. Seen a set that looked like yours but had more carving on it. I put it back on the shelf, darn!

Hello~
I just stumbled onto your blog and have to let you know how amazing this transformation is!
Who would have thought they had any potential at all?!
The next time I run into a pair, I'll think twice about leaving them behind.
Thank you for inspiration!

Thanks for stopping by Caro! I love what you did with the wooden spoon and fork, I would never have thought of that. I too passed them up because of the carving,..may have to think next time.

Oh Caro, you're brilliant! I found the same set months ago at a thrift store but hate the totem part as well, so they've been sitting in our garage. I almost donated them recently, but now I know what to do!

Quick question, what is the length of your fork/spoon? I'm looking at a few different sets and not sure which size to go with. LOVE IT.
